Cryptopolitan reported on May 2 that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority made the establishment of a stablecoin regulatory regime its top priority in its 2026 annual report. The HKMA also plans to align its policies with international standards and advance the tokenization of real-world assets, or RWA, to establish a payment system using stablecoins within a regulated framework.
Hong Kong authorities also introduced an AI-based fraud prevention platform to address financial fraud risks that could emerge as stablecoin use increases. Unveiled by the Hong Kong Anti-Deception Alliance at Hong Kong Web3 Festival 2026, the platform is designed to let exchanges, cybersecurity companies and compliance groups work together to detect and share suspicious activity in real time.
