Blockchain infrastructure company Aptos said May 7 that it will invest $50 million to expand artificial intelligence-based financial infrastructure.
The Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs plan to use the funding to invest in companies focused on AI and institutional-grade asset management, develop financial platforms and conduct technology research.
Aptos said the spread of AI-based automated trading is reshaping financial systems around shared infrastructure. Under that model, multiple institutions and services would handle trading and settlement based on the same data.
The company said that outlook reflects recent moves by global financial institutions. Large asset managers including BlackRock and Franklin Templeton are already using the Aptos network.
According to Aptos, real-world assets on its network reached a record $1.2 billion. Its stablecoin supply also rose to $1.93 billion, about 10 times the level at the end of last year.
Aptos is also developing infrastructure to strengthen compatibility with existing financial systems. Decibel, an on-chain trading project built on Aptos, has surpassed $1 billion in cumulative trading volume. Aptos is also continuing to invest in related areas, including Shelby, an AI data infrastructure project.
Avery Ching, chief executive officer of Aptos Labs, said AI and financial markets need a shared system that is connected in real time and can be verified. Blockchain is the core technology capable of supporting that market structure, he added.
