The attacker behind the Verus Ethereum bridge exploit returned 4,052 Ether to the project team and kept the remaining 1,350 Ether as a bounty.
The Block reported on May 22 that blockchain security firm PeckShield said the attacker sent 4,052.4 Ether, worth about $8.5 million, to a Verus team wallet.
The returned funds account for about 75% of the total stolen amount. The attacker moved the remaining Ether, worth about $2.8 million, to a separate wallet.
The transfer came shortly after Verus core contributors offered terms to the attacker. Verus said on X, formerly Twitter, that if 4,052.4 Ether was returned within 24 hours, it would halt its investigation and refrain from legal action or further tracing.
The Verus team also said it would treat the remaining funds as a bounty and publicly recognize them as a bug bounty.
