BitMine, an Ethereum-holding company, has been included on a preliminary list for addition to the Russell 1000 index.
Wu Blockchain reported on May 25 that BitMine Chairman Tom Lee wrote on X that FTSE Russell had released its preliminary addition and deletion lists and that BitMine was among the stocks slated for possible inclusion in the Russell 1000.
The Russell 1000 is a U.S. large-cap stock index. BitMine's market capitalization is currently above the roughly $5.7 billion minimum threshold for inclusion, the report said.
Lee said many active managers invest only in Russell 1000 constituents. Passive index funds and ETFs also tend to hold stakes equivalent to about 20% to 25% of a company's market capitalization, he added.
The market has also raised the possibility of increased institutional inflows if BitMine's inclusion in the Russell 1000 is confirmed.
