Banca Sella Gets Italy’s First MiCA Approval for Crypto Services

Banca Sella is preparing to launch cryptocurrency services after receiving approval from the Bank of Italy under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA.
CoinDesk reported on May 27 that Banca Sella had been granted a Crypto-Asset Service Provider, or CASP, license by the Bank of Italy. The lender plans to roll out digital-asset custody, transfer and receipt services for a limited group of corporate clients later this year.
Banca Sella manages about 50 billion euros in assets and serves more than 3.1 million customers. The bank said it has completed the formal 40-day notification process required under the MiCA framework.
In a statement, Banca Sella said the CASP approval would enable it to launch digital-asset custody, transfer and receipt solutions for selected client groups in 2026.
The service will operate with compliance support from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. Its internal digital-asset infrastructure was developed from a pilot project built with Fireblocks.
