The White House denied the authenticity of a memorandum of understanding, or MOU, published by Iranian state media that purported to outline talks between the US and Iran.

On May 27, the White House said on its Rapid Response 47 account on X, formerly Twitter, that the report by Iranian state-controlled media was false and that the published MOU was "a complete fabrication."

It also said no one should trust content distributed by Iranian state media, adding: "Facts matter."

Earlier, Iranian state media released what it described as a draft MOU believed to have been prepared during negotiations between Washington and Tehran. The document included a withdrawal of US military forces from areas near Iran, the lifting of a US Navy blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and plans to normalize Iranian commercial shipping operations.

Iran also claimed that if a final agreement is reached within 60 days, the deal would be approved in the form of a binding United Nations Security Council resolution.
