Additional U.S. airstrikes on Iranian military facilities are once again underscoring uncertainty over ceasefire talks.

Bloomberg reported on May 27 that U.S. Central Command recently carried out strikes on Iranian military targets. A U.S. official described the attack as "defensive" and said Washington intends to preserve the ceasefire framework that began last month.

U.S. forces also shot down four Iranian suicide drones launched toward commercial vessels and struck an Iranian drone-launch unit in Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the report.

Shortly before the strikes, President Donald Trump said no single country would be allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz.

At a White House cabinet meeting, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is "international waters" and would remain open to all countries, with the U.S. monitoring the area. He did not specify what steps Washington would take to guarantee passage through the strait.

With tensions around the Strait of Hormuz persisting, international oil prices have surged, sending fresh shockwaves through the global economy. Brent crude rose about 2% earlier in the session to as high as $96.15 a barrel.

Asian stocks traded lower as hopes for negotiations clashed with concern over military conflict. Bitcoin also fell below $75,000 and was trading at $74,316.15 on Binance's USDT market.
