Iran's parliament is set to vote soon on a bill that would formally establish the country's management and sovereign authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's semi-official Nour News reported on May 30 that Alireza Salimi, a member of parliament's presiding board, said lawmakers would "soon" vote on a measure to make a Strait of Hormuz management plan law.
Salimi said all details of the bill would be finalized through parliamentary deliberations. He argued that no other country should make decisions about the waterway's operation because the strait spans the territorial waters of Iran and Oman.
"US President Donald Trump says the Strait of Hormuz should be opened, but this is a matter that concerns us, and we will not allow them to decide it," Salimi said. He added that decisions on managing the Strait of Hormuz would not be tactical or temporary, but definitive and permanent.
