Chiliz, a global sports and entertainment blockchain company, said on June 2 that it launched official fan tokens for the South Africa and Scotland national football teams.

The launch comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Chiliz previously introduced fan tokens for the Argentina, Portugal and Italy national teams. The additions of South Africa and Scotland broaden its ecosystem of national-team fan tokens.

Chiliz currently operates fan tokens with more than 70 sports clubs worldwide, including Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter Milan. With the new national-team tokens, the company plans to expand its Europe- and South America-focused SportFi ecosystem into Africa.

Fan token holders can use Socios.com to participate in decisions tied to the national teams. They can vote on cheer messages for friendly matches and designs for team bus wraps. They also receive digital rewards such as behind-the-scenes content and the ability to select a match MVP.

Token holders can also access offline programs, including VIP tickets to official matches and fan meetings with players. Chiliz said these offerings will create more touchpoints between supporters and the national teams.

The company said it chose South Africa and Scotland because both have active overseas fan bases and diaspora communities. Chiliz expects the move to strengthen its role as a digital fandom hub linking fans around the world.

Chief Executive Officer Alexandre Dreyfus said Chiliz wants to lead innovative fan culture at the 2026 World Cup, following the previous tournament. He added that on-chain technology can help overcome the physical distance between national teams and their supporters.
