The US military said it shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones headed toward the Strait of Hormuz and carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance facilities.
US Central Command said in a post on X on June 5 that American forces had downed four Iranian one-way attack drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz.
The drones posed an immediate threat to maritime traffic in the region, the command said.
US forces later struck coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk in southern Iran and on Qeshm Island to prevent further attacks.
"The US military remains prepared to act in self-defense against unjustified Iranian attacks," Central Command said. "We continue to monitor the regional security situation."
The move followed a statement by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, that it had attacked US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, in a sign of renewed military tensions between Washington and Tehran.
