Layer-1 blockchain Monad said on June 6 that it had published a protocol change proposal aimed at accelerating network consensus.

Under the Monad Improvement Proposal framework, developer Category Labs proposed in a draft of MIP-12 shortening the network's consensus voting interval to 300 milliseconds from 400 milliseconds.

The draft also calls for changes to key block parameters to align with the shorter voting interval. Transaction capacity per block would be cut to 3,750 from 5,000. The gas limit for block proposals would be reduced to 150 million from 200 million. The maximum size of block proposal data would also be lowered to 1.5 million bytes from 2 million bytes.

Staking rewards would also change. To reflect the shorter block production cycle, the reward per block would decrease to 18 MON from 25 MON.

Category Labs said the consensus client's voting speed would improve by 100 milliseconds, allowing validators to reach consensus more quickly. That would reduce both block production time and the time required to reach consensus.
