OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has begun the process for an initial public offering in the US.

Reuters reported on June 8 that OpenAI submitted a confidential registration statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission for the IPO.

OpenAI did not disclose the size of the offering or detailed terms tied to the filing. Reuters previously reported that the company is targeting a valuation of as much as $1 trillion and could seek a listing as early as September.

The IPO move comes as artificial intelligence rival Anthropic is also preparing to go public. Markets are watching whether investor demand for the AI industry will carry over into the IPO market.

OpenAI's listing plans are also being compared with SpaceX's recent mega-IPO. SpaceX is targeting a valuation of about $1.75 trillion through an offering worth roughly $75 billion, and its debut could set a new record for the largest IPO.

If completed, OpenAI's IPO would become a landmark listing for the recent AI boom. Investor interest has intensified as generative AI spreads rapidly across companies and industries worldwide.

OpenAI has not provided a separate statement on a specific listing timetable or the structure of the offering.
