World Liberty Financial, the decentralized finance project led by US President Donald Trump’s family, will pay part of a UFC event bonus in its own stablecoin, USD1.
The Block reported on June 14 that World Liberty Financial will sponsor the Performance of the Night bonus at UFC Freedom 250, set for June 15 on the South Lawn of the White House. The company plans to award a total of $250,000 in bonuses in USD1.
World Liberty Financial co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Zach Witkoff said USD1 allows winning fighters in Washington to receive their rewards immediately instead of waiting for banking hours.
The USD1 bonus is separate from Crypto.com’s independently run $1 million CRO token bonus program. UFC is set to pay a record $1.65 million in fight-night bonuses in total.
The sponsorship extends World Liberty Financial’s push into sports marketing. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with a mixed martial arts company last year to introduce USD1 into its blockchain ecosystem.
The arrangement is also reviving conflict-of-interest concerns because a company in which Trump and his family hold an economic stake is sponsoring an event at the White House, the president’s residence. Reuters recently estimated that the Trump family has earned at least $2.3 billion from major cryptocurrency businesses since taking office, with World Liberty Financial accounting for the largest share.
USD1 has grown into the sixth-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin, with circulating supply of about $4.4 billion. World Liberty Financial is also expanding its stablecoin business, including by recently filing an application with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a trust bank.
