President Donald Trump cast a peace agreement with Iran as a major foreign-policy achievement, drawing a contrast with previous US presidents.
Writing on Truth Social on June 14, Trump said the “great agreement” would bring peace and security across the Middle East. Many presidents tried to make peace with Iran, he wrote, but all failed before him.
Trump added that Middle Eastern leaders had, for the first time in history, met a president who could help deliver what he described as genuine peace.
He also said he plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after signing the agreement with Iran on June 19. The strait would be opened for mine-clearing operations, he wrote, after which oil supplies to the Middle East and the rest of the world would return to normal.
