Oman has launched a national Bitcoin mining pool.
Wu Blockchain reported on June 19 that Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology launched Omanhash, a state-backed Bitcoin mining pool, with Frontier Technologies. Licensed virtual-asset mining companies in the country will be required to join it.
Omanhash is the only official Bitcoin mining pool operating under Oman’s regulatory framework. The government plans to use the pool to centrally manage the hash rate of licensed miners and improve transparency across the industry.
In its initial phase, Omanhash will consolidate about 10 EH/s of hash rate. EH/s, or exahash per second, measures computing power on the Bitcoin mining network.
Oman has invested aggressively in its Bitcoin mining industry in recent years. Since 2022, it has invested more than $700 million in mining facilities and data-center infrastructure.
