Iran Says It Will Close Strait of Hormuz Again, Citing US, Israel Ceasefire Violations

Iran said it would close the Strait of Hormuz after accusing the US and Israel of violating a ceasefire agreement.

Iran's state-run Fars News Agency reported on June 20 that the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement that the US had violated the first clause of the ceasefire agreement and that Israel had continuously breached the ceasefire in southern Lebanon. It added that Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz.

The command described the move as its first response to the other side's alleged violations of the agreement. It warned that it would plan and carry out additional measures if attacks continue.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said it would send a delegation to Switzerland to demand implementation of the agreement. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran would seek clarity on how the other side plans to fulfill its obligations.

Iran has honored its commitments, Baghaei said, and the other side must also take steps to halt Israel's attacks.

He added that the entire agreement could be put at risk if the other side fails to meet its obligations. Iran entered the agreement to keep its promises and would respond with necessary measures if the other side evades its responsibilities.
