President Donald Trump criticized a Senate vote on the War Powers Act, saying it made negotiations with Iran more difficult.
In a Truth Social post on June 23, Trump wrote that Iran had been prepared to give up “virtually everything” and, for the first time in decades, was showing respect for the US and its president. He argued that the Senate then proceeded with a War Powers Act vote that was “neither timely nor meaningful.”
Trump said the vote signaled opposition to US policy toward Iran. In his view, it told Iran — which he called “the world’s largest state sponsor of terror” — that the US did not want to maintain its current pressure campaign.
He also pointed to four Republican senators who voted with Democrats. Trump said Iranian officials asked, “What does that mean?” and added that their actions had made his job harder.
Still, Trump reiterated that he wants to reach a deal. “One way or another, we’ll get the job done,” he wrote. “I always deliver results.”
