Coinbase's Layer 2 network Base said the same sequencer bug caused the mainnet outages on June 25 and June 26.
Wu Blockchain reported on June 28 that both service disruptions stemmed from the same block production bug. The June 25 outage lasted about 116 minutes, while the June 26 disruption lasted about 20 minutes.
Base said the bug allowed blocks containing invalid state transitions to be produced after an outdated journal state remained in place following a transaction processing failure.
The company said the outages had no impact on user funds and that the bug has already been fixed.
Base added that it plans to strengthen protocol fuzz testing and load testing to prevent a recurrence, while also improving its monitoring systems and network recovery mechanisms.
