The crypto market remained steady overnight even after Strategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, sold a large amount of the token, in what one analyst said investors interpreted positively.

On July 7, CryptoQuant contributor Axel Adler Jr. wrote on his blog that the sale did not represent a change in Strategy’s long-term Bitcoin holding strategy. Instead, he described it as a forced sale to meet preferred stock payment obligations and secure dollar liquidity. In his view, the market treated the move as one-off liquidity management rather than a systematic disposal of Bitcoin.

Strategy sold 3,588 Bitcoin in two transactions between June 29 and July 5 for a total of $216 million. It was the company’s first large net sale since December 2022 and the biggest Bitcoin sale in its history.

Adler said the latest sale was different from the one at the end of 2022. That earlier sale was made to address tax issues. This time, he wrote, the company was managing liquidity to meet dividend payment obligations related to preferred shares and build up cash-equivalent assets.

That is why the market did not rush to panic-sell despite the largest Bitcoin sale in Strategy’s history, Adler wrote.

He added that bigger or repeated sales in the future could be interpreted by the market as a negative signal.
