Vanguard Begins Search for Head of Digital Assets

Cointelegraph reported on X on July 7 that Vanguard has begun recruiting a head of digital assets.

The role is part of Vanguard’s Personal Wealth division and would be responsible for shaping the company’s strategy for digital assets and blockchain-based financial technology. The job posting says the position would review tokenization, stablecoins, digital wallets, custody, and blockchain-based payment and settlement models.

The hiring effort may signal a shift in strategy at Vanguard, which has long taken a conservative approach to digital assets. The firm, which manages about $10 trillion in assets, has refrained from launching its own digital-asset products even as BlackRock, Fidelity, and Franklin Templeton expanded spot Bitcoin ETFs and blockchain businesses.

Still, Vanguard has shown some movement from its earlier stance since December 2025 by allowing brokerage-account clients to trade digital-asset ETFs and mutual funds. CoinDesk said the job posting does not necessarily indicate a new product launch is imminent, but shows Vanguard is reassessing its digital-asset strategy beyond merely allowing access to third-party fund trading.
