The US military said it had launched airstrikes on Iran for a third straight day.
US Central Command wrote on X that it began the latest strikes at 4:45 p.m. Eastern time on July 13 under orders from the commander in chief.
The operation is intended to impose significant costs on Iran’s military and continue degrading its ability to attack civilian and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the command said.
The US military has carried out daily strikes in response to recent Iranian attacks on merchant shipping and has stressed that operations are continuing to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
