US lawmakers are entering final-stage negotiations on the CLARITY Act. With July and August effectively the deadline for passing the bill, senior White House officials may join the talks directly.
CoinDesk reported on July 15, citing people familiar with the matter, that senior White House officials plan to meet with senators on July 16 to seek a compromise on the public-official ethics provision, the biggest sticking point in the bill. Those people added that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles may attend the meeting in person.
The CLARITY Act's ethics provision is aimed at preventing conflicts of interest related to digital-asset businesses involving senior public officials, including the president and vice president.
