US Completes 11th Straight Day of Airstrikes on Iran to Curb Strait of Hormuz Threats

The US military has completed an 11th straight day of airstrikes on Iran aimed at weakening its ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said on X that it completed the 11-day operation against Iran at 8:15 p.m. Eastern time on July 21. That was 9:15 a.m. in South Korea on July 22.

The strikes targeted Iran’s military command facilities, naval assets, aircraft hangars, drone storage sites and logistics infrastructure. Central Command said the operation was intended to further degrade Iranian military capabilities that could threaten merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial ships passing through the strait over the past three months, according to Central Command. The command added that the attacks put the safety of hundreds of civilian mariners at risk.

Despite the attacks, the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial traffic. Since early May, the US military has supported the transit of about 900 merchant ships carrying about 450 million barrels of oil, Central Command said.
