Gorae to Put Data From More Than 50,000 EV Chargers On-Chain Using Sui, Walrus

Gorae, an electric-vehicle charging infrastructure company, said July 24 that it will move usage and settlement data from more than 50,000 EV chargers in South Korea onto the blockchain. The company selected Sui and Walrus for the on-chain migration.

The rollout will proceed in phases in the second half of this year with major charging point operators in South Korea.

Gorae plans to use Sui to process payments and settlements for each charging session. It will store charging time, usage volume, revenue and other records on Walrus in a verifiable format. The system will add verification and settlement functions to the management platforms already used by charging operators, without replacing existing chargers or operating equipment.

EV charging data is currently spread across multiple systems, including driver apps, charging operators and power companies. As a result, reconciling transaction records between operators takes time, and investors have difficulty verifying the utilization and profitability of individual chargers.

Gorae says storing charging records on-chain can address those issues.

"Millions of EV charging transactions take place every day around the world, but the related data has been difficult to verify independently," Chief Executive Officer Park Se-jin said. "We will turn usage records and revenue from chargers already in operation into verifiable digital assets."

After completing the on-chain conversion of South Korea's EV charging network, Gorae plans to expand into Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.
