Japan's Gumi, SBI Launch $18.3 Million Crypto Fund for Bitcoin, Altcoins

Gumi, a Japanese game developer, has launched a cryptocurrency investment fund with SBI Financial Services.
Cointelegraph reported on July 30 that the two companies began operating a 3 billion yen ($18.3 million) crypto fund that day. Daiwa Securities Group and other investors are participating in the fund.
The fund is managed by SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture owned 51% by SBI Financial Services and 49% by gC Labs, a Gumi subsidiary. In a disclosure earlier this week, Gumi said the fund will invest mainly in Bitcoin and major altcoins, using staking, portfolio rebalancing and hedging strategies.
Gumi said the fund is intended to link Japan's corporate sector with the cryptocurrency market and build an investment track record ahead of a possible approval of crypto exchange-traded funds in Japan.
The launch aligns with Gumi's broader expansion in digital assets. The company already manages its own crypto portfolio centered on XRP and also runs portfolio management services and a crypto investment fund business through its subsidiary Hinode Technologies. According to its latest annual report, Gumi's crypto holdings stood at 14.13 billion yen as of April 30, 2026, up from 7.58 billion yen a year earlier, nearly doubling.
