Russia is expanding the areas subject to its Bitcoin mining ban, adding the capital Moscow to the list.

Beginning Aug. 15, Russia will prohibit digital-asset mining in Moscow, the surrounding Moscow region and parts of Kursk through the end of 2032, Cryptopolitan reported on Aug. 1.

Russia accounted for about 17.2% of the global Bitcoin hash rate in the third quarter, making it the world's second-largest Bitcoin mining country, according to Hashrate Index.
