Mastercard Completes BVNK Acquisition Worth Up to $1.8 Billion

Mastercard has completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK.

Cointelegraph reported on August 4 that Mastercard had officially closed the deal. The acquisition is worth up to $1.8 billion, including a contingent payment of $300 million.

Mastercard plans to combine its global payments network with BVNK’s on-chain infrastructure to link digital currencies with fiat currencies. The company said the deal will support broader use of stablecoins and tokenized assets by financial institutions, fintech firms and corporate clients across cross-border payments, settlement and treasury management.

In a separate announcement, BVNK said it had become part of Mastercard and that existing customers would continue using the same teams, products and integration services. It added that Mastercard’s global network would enable banks to offer stablecoin payment services and connect customer accounts to digital wallets.

The deal was struck after Mastercard agreed to acquire BVNK in March, following Coinbase’s decision to end acquisition talks with the company during due diligence in November 2025. Those talks had valued BVNK at about $2 billion.
