The US Senate is considering adding sports-betting provisions to the CLARITY Act, a digital-asset market structure bill.

The Block reported on August 4 that, as the Senate pushes ahead with the bill this week, some lawmakers are discussing language that would preserve the regulatory authority of states and tribal governments over sports betting.

At a Senate roundtable, Democratic Senator Tina Smith proposed including the provision in either the CLARITY Act or the Farm Bill. Republican Senator John Boozman, meanwhile, opposes linking prediction-market rules to crypto legislation.

The discussion comes as regulators in the US continue to debate whether sports-event contracts offered by prediction-market platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket are legal financial products or gambling.
