The US Securities and Exchange Commission is set to discuss whether to introduce new offering rules for cryptocurrency-related investment contracts.

Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, said the SEC will hold an open meeting at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Aug. 15 to decide whether to release a proposed rule for a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts tied to crypto assets.

The proposal is understood to outline a separate offering framework that reflects the characteristics of crypto investment contracts, rather than applying existing securities rules without modification.

If the SEC approves release of the proposal, the agency would then begin a public comment process, paving the way for formal discussions on adopting the rules.
