Anthropic Pursues $6 Billion Decart AI Acquisition to Bolster Infrastructure Ahead of IPO

Anthropic is pursuing a deal to acquire AI startup Decart AI for about $6 billion, Bloomberg reported on August 13.

Anthropic is in talks to buy Decart for roughly $6 billion, according to the report. No final agreement has been reached, and the negotiations could still collapse.

If completed, the transaction would be Anthropic's largest acquisition to date. The move would strengthen the computing infrastructure needed to develop AI models and expand services ahead of an initial public offering.

Founded in 2023, Decart has technology that uses semiconductors more efficiently during AI model training, reducing costs. Anthropic believes the technology could lift the processing capacity of its existing infrastructure and help it meet surging demand for AI services.

If the acquisition closes, Decart employees would join Anthropic's inference and performance organization, the report said. Decart is also developing generative video technology based on a World Model that can modify video in real time.

Decart raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures in May. Nvidia and Adobe Ventures participated, and the company was valued at about $4 billion at the time.

Anthropic has recently ramped up investment in computing infrastructure to support AI model development and expand customer services. Bloomberg reported that Anthropic and OpenAI have committed tens of billions to hundreds of billions of dollars to data centers and semiconductors to build advanced AI models.
