Walter Bloomberg reported on Aug. 15 that Iran intends to maintain the closure until the US agrees to its demands. Official peace talks between the two countries remain deadlocked.
Shipping traffic has also fallen sharply. Kpler data showed that only two vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Aug. 14, and no ships carrying crude oil were confirmed to have transited the waterway.
President Donald Trump had earlier said the US would have to tolerate higher gasoline prices resulting from the standoff with Iran. US gasoline prices are currently 29% higher than a year earlier.
