Ethereum developers are reviewing 66 proposals for the network’s next major upgrade, Hegotá, with native privacy features emerging as a key area of focus.

Cointelegraph reported on August 16 that developers are assessing 66 Ethereum Improvement Proposals, or EIPs, as they work to finalize the scope of the Hegotá upgrade.

Only one proposal has been confirmed for inclusion so far: FOCIL, short for Fork-choice enforced inclusion lists. The proposal would allow a validator committee to require certain pending transactions to be included in a block, a design aimed at strengthening the network’s resistance to censorship.

Other proposals under consideration include Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), Keyed Nonces (EIP-8250) and Recent Roots for Frame Transactions (EIP-8272), which could support privacy-related functions.

Ethereum Foundation contributor Toni Wahrstätter wrote on X that all three proposals should be included in Hegotá.

If adopted, those features would enable “native privacy,” allowing privacy applications to operate without relying on intermediaries.

Developers are targeting 2027 for the rollout of Hegotá. In future core developer meetings, they plan to narrow the 66 candidates to the EIPs that will be included in the upgrade. Proposals that are not selected could be reconsidered in later upgrades.

The next Ethereum developer meeting is scheduled for August 17 at 2 p.m. UTC.

Before Hegotá, Ethereum is planning the Glamsterdam upgrade for the second half of this year. Glamsterdam is focused on improving scalability, strengthening Layer 1 security and enhancing network usability. After that, Hegotá is set to bring further protocol-level improvements to Ethereum.
