Visa Inc. is seeking a new partner for stablecoin payments, CoinDesk reported on August 18.

The payments company recently issued a request for proposals, or RFP, for a stablecoin payments and over-the-counter trading partner with digital-asset exchange licenses in the US, Canada, the UK and Singapore, the report said.

Visa's search follows the acquisition of its former partner, stablecoin payments firm BVNK, by Mastercard earlier this year.

The new partner would need to support exchanges and services across multiple stablecoins. It would also handle payment processing for the Open USD project, which includes Stripe, Visa and Mastercard as participants.

The pool of candidates is limited because any partner must hold licenses in all of those major markets. CoinDesk said Visa is reviewing specific payments and OTC firms that meet those requirements.

Visa declined to confirm the matter.
