Bitcoin traded above $70,000, fueling a rebound in trading activity at South Korea’s cryptocurrency exchanges.
According to CoinGecko, as of 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 21, Upbit’s trading value over the previous 24 hours had jumped 190.4% from a day earlier to about $1.7571 billion.
Bithumb also saw a sharp increase. Its 24-hour trading value was up 294.4% from the previous day at about $824.6 million.
The surge in trading at the local exchanges came as the broader cryptocurrency market rallied.
Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market value, was trading at $78,010, up 8.8% from a day earlier. It briefly rose above $79,000 during the session.
Other major altcoins listed on Korean exchanges also advanced, including Ether (+5.4%), XRP (+22.8%) and Solana (+4.7%).
