Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 21 that Binance said the employees were released after being questioned by UAE authorities as witnesses.

The New York Times had earlier reported that two Binance employees were stopped and detained at an airport in the UAE. Local police were investigating suspected crimes linked to Binance at the time.

Binance said the employees were not targets of the investigation. They gave statements to authorities regarding third-party fund transfers through Binance customer accounts.

A Binance spokesperson said the handling of digital assets and accounts holding funds for institutional clients remains a new concept in many countries. The company is working with UAE authorities, including Dubai Police, to establish clear and appropriate cooperation procedures.
