Grayscale has launched the first exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Zcash, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency.
Crypto news outlet The Block reported on August 25 that Grayscale listed the Zcash ETF on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH. The product was converted from the existing Grayscale Zcash Trust into an ETF and carries a 2.5% management fee. Grayscale said the fee revenue will be returned to the network to support development of the Zcash ecosystem.
Steve Vannoy, head of indexes at Grayscale, said demand for true financial privacy will increase as artificial intelligence reshapes the way financial activity is monitored. Through ZCSH, investors can now access what he called the market’s leading privacy-focused asset. He added that he believes Zcash will play an important long-term role and said Grayscale was proud to improve access through the familiar ETF structure.
Zcash also surged ahead of the launch. The token has gained 45% over the past several days, according to The Block’s pricing data. The rally began before Grayscale filed its fifth amended registration statement late last weekend.
A previous amended filing also showed that a subsidiary of Grayscale parent Digital Currency Group is considering acquiring about 200,000 ZEC through the trust. Assets under management at the Grayscale Zcash Trust exceeded $313.5 million as of the day before the listing.
Grayscale has converted multiple trusts into ETFs, including products tied to Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana and Litecoin.
