Ripple is moving to bolster the security architecture of its XRP Ledger blockchain network.
CoinDesk reported on August 29 that the company has developed a four-stage plan to prepare for the possibility that advances in quantum computing could weaken existing cryptographic systems.
Ripple will first identify parts of the XRP Ledger that may be vulnerable to attacks from quantum computers.
It will then test alternative cryptographic technologies capable of handling the network's current throughput.
Once testing is complete, Ripple plans to operate the current system alongside quantum-resistant cryptography for a period before transitioning the broader network to the new framework.
Ayo Akinnyele, Ripple's senior director of engineering, said the goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat. Instead, the company aims to evolve far enough in advance to avoid disrupting the systems, assets and users that financial infrastructure relies on.
The priority, he added, is to prepare for a deliberate and orderly transition rather than respond after a crisis occurs.
