Bitcoin Nears $80,000 as Binance BTC Holdings Hit 2026 High, Signaling Sell-Pressure Risk
Summary
- Binance’s Bitcoin holdings rose to about 687,000 BTC, the highest level of 2026, increasing potential selling pressure.
- As the Bitcoin price climbed from the $60,000 range toward $80,000, the increase in exchange holdings may be read as potential supply that could limit further gains.
- Whether Bitcoin breaks above $80,000 may depend on how much fresh spot buying and exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows can absorb the potential supply accumulated on exchanges.

Bitcoin is attempting to reclaim $80,000, but a rise in Bitcoin holdings at Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, is flashing a warning on potential selling pressure.
In an analysis published Aug. 30, CryptoQuant contributor XWIN Japan wrote that Binance’s Bitcoin holdings rose to about 687,000 BTC, the highest level of 2026. The exchange’s reserves had fallen to about 617,000 BTC in late April before reversing higher, with the pace of gains accelerating in August.
A key point is that Bitcoin prices and exchange reserves are rising at the same time. As Bitcoin climbed from the $60,000 range to near $80,000, the amount of Bitcoin held on Binance also increased. Because inflows to exchanges often precede selling or hedging by investors, the buildup can be read as a potential source of supply that may cap further gains.
“If more Bitcoin flows into exchanges during a price rebound, it may signal that holders are moving assets to take profits, hedge or use them as collateral,” XWIN Japan wrote.
That does not mean all 687,000 BTC held by Binance will come to market. Rising exchange balances can also reflect internal wallet reorganization, transfers of custodial assets, market-making activity and collateral movements tied to derivatives trading.
Even so, Binance’s reserves reaching a 2026 high with Bitcoin nearing the key resistance level of $80,000 stands out as a near-term caution signal. If prices extend their advance, profit-taking supply could emerge and limit the rally’s momentum.
Whether Bitcoin breaks above $80,000 may depend on how much fresh spot demand and exchange-traded fund inflows can absorb the potential supply building up on exchanges.
