U.S. consumer prices rose in August at a pace that matched market expectations.

The consumer price index rose 3.4% in August from a year earlier, in line with economists’ forecasts, according to data released Sept. 11 by the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

From the previous month, the CPI increased 0.4%, also matching market expectations.

Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.3% from a month earlier, above the market forecast of 0.2%.
