King Charles III to Host Global AI Gathering in Scotland With OpenAI, Nvidia

King Charles III will bring together leaders of global artificial intelligence companies in Scotland this week to discuss how to develop AI responsibly.

Cointelegraph, citing The Sunday Times on September 14, reported that the gathering will be held at Dumfries House in Scotland and organized by the Ditchley Foundation. Executives and representatives from major AI companies including Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, IonQ and Google DeepMind have been invited to discuss how to build “AI for humanity.”

The meeting comes as industry concern grows that advances in frontier AI could outpace humanity’s ability to control the technology. It is drawing particular attention because it comes just after Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk each raised the need to slow the pace of AI development.

In an open letter released on September 11, Amodei wrote that AI technology has been advancing “at a dramatically faster rate” since this summer, driven by recursive self-improvement. He also argued that swarms of AI agents, like those used in the July attack on Hugging Face, could gain the ability to “take over the entire internet” within the next six to 12 months. Altman has also agreed that the pace of frontier AI development needs to be moderated.

The Sunday Times said King Charles III has also shown interest in AI’s development and its potential risks. The meeting is expected to center on how to keep the technology advancing while ensuring human control and safety.
