Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, a key crude transport route that was shut after a recent drone attack, is set to restart soon.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Bloomberg Television on September 14 that “you’ll see the pipeline come back on shortly.”
Saudi authorities are carefully assessing the extent of the damage and the repairs required, Wright said, adding that he expects a clearer update soon.
The East-West pipeline was shut after a drone attack late last week. It is Saudi Arabia’s main alternative export route for shipping crude without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The pipeline has capacity of about 7 million barrels a day. Earlier this year, it quickly reached full capacity after tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was effectively paralyzed.
