U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized the growing push for artificial intelligence safety regulation and calls to slow development, stressing the need for the United States to secure leadership in AI.

In a Truth Social post on September 14, Trump said, "The only control, or 'guardrail,' needed for AI is a strong and smart president," adding that "America has that very thing."

He also directly targeted Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei, who has recently argued for slowing the pace of AI development. Trump wrote that his administration has stopped "people in the AI industry like Dario" from doing bad things or potentially bad things, and already has broad criminal and regulatory authority over those companies.

Trump also pushed back against the recent safety debate surrounding AI and data centers. He said a misguided conspiracy is forming around AI and data centers and that only China welcomes it.

"Whoever wins AI, wins," Trump said, adding that the United States is ahead of China and every other country and will remain so.

Trump's remarks underscored his opposition to growing calls from major AI companies including OpenAI, Anthropic and Microsoft to strengthen safeguards for advanced AI models or slow the pace of development.
