Apple Chairman Tim Cook and OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman will attend a state dinner next week between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Bloomberg reported on Sept. 16 that Trump plans to host a state dinner for Xi in Washington next week. A person familiar with the matter said Cook will attend, and OpenAI confirmed Altman’s attendance.
Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang, whose attendance had been reported earlier, is also set to join other top corporate executives. That would bring together a cluster of leaders from the global artificial intelligence industry at the dinner between the US and Chinese presidents.
The dinner comes as tensions persist over the US-China contest for AI dominance, trade frictions and strains surrounding the Middle East. Trump said earlier this week that he still has a “great relationship” with Xi.
