Users are being urged to stay alert after a fake website impersonating hardware wallet maker Ledger appeared at the top of Google search results.
Bitcoin News reported on October 11 that fake websites and applications posing as Ledger have recently been showing up in Google searches.
The site reportedly prompts users to enter a 24-word wallet recovery phrase. If that phrase is exposed, a third party could access the wallet and steal the assets.
Cybersecurity firm Zscaler in September also found cases in which malicious Google ads impersonating Ledger directed users to a fake wallet verification page.
Separately, Ledger was recently linked to the theft of about $86 million in assets involving customers of Southeast Asian distributor Cryptobilis. No direct connection between that incident and the fake website has been confirmed.
