Bitcoin rebounded over the weekend, reclaiming the $84,000 level.
As of 1:46 p.m. Korea time on Oct. 12, Bitcoin was trading at $84,152.01 on Binance's USDT market, up 1.47% from a day earlier. On Upbit's won market, it traded at 113.29 million won, down 0.06% from the previous day.
Major altcoins, including Ether, also moved higher. Ether was trading at $2,561.88 on Binance's USDT market, up 2.15% from a day earlier. XRP rose 1.43% to $1.42, while Solana gained 2.99% to $112.93.
The rebound appears to have been influenced by U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of a halt to attacks on Russian and Ukrainian energy facilities. Bloomberg reported on Oct. 11 that Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that the two sides had agreed to stop attacking energy infrastructure. "Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it," he wrote, claiming the truce took effect immediately.
Uncertainty remains over whether the ceasefire will actually be implemented. Trump did not disclose the specific scope or duration of the agreement, and it has not been confirmed whether the Russian government formally agreed to it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine would also accept the arrangement if Russia agreed to the energy truce.
Zelenskiy said that even after Trump's announcement, Russia continued airstrikes on energy facilities, including an attack on a combined heat and power plant in Kharkiv. As a result, it remains to be seen whether the announcement will lead to a real easing of tensions.
