MediaMarktSaturn, one of Europe’s largest consumer electronics retailers, has halted all sales of Ledger hardware wallets as allegations of device tampering spread.
Cointelegraph reported on October 13 that MediaMarktSaturn had removed all Ledger products from its stores and online platform and was in contact with the manufacturer. The retailer said it was taking the matter “very seriously.”
The move follows claims that Ledger devices sold at MediaMarkt stores in Europe contained unauthorized cables and cellular modules. A security researcher identified as Johannes said he found the same signs of tampering on two Ledger devices purchased at different stores.
Ledger has also opened an investigation. Earlier, devices distributed through Southeast Asian seller CryptoBilis were reported to contain hardware that transmitted users’ wallet recovery phrases over mobile networks to external parties. A similar case was also found in Singapore.
Ledger has not yet issued an official statement on whether devices sold in Europe were tampered with.
