A significant share of trading in tokenized stocks — shares issued as blockchain-based tokens — is taking place outside regular US market hours, underscoring 24-hour trading as a key competitive advantage for the sector.

Blockworks data cited by Cointelegraph on October 13 showed that more than 70% of tokenized stock trading volume on BNB Chain occurred outside regular US stock market hours, which run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time. On Solana, 63% of total volume took place outside those hours, while Base accounted for about 60%.

The figures show investors are using blockchain-based products to trade stocks even when traditional markets are closed, rather than limiting activity to standard exchange hours. Trading volume in tokenized assets on Jupiter, a major Solana-based platform, also climbed 50% from a month earlier, supporting the market's growth.

The overall tokenized stock market is also expanding. According to real-world asset data platform RWA.xyz, the total value of tokenized stocks rose 15% over the past 30 days to nearly $3.3 billion. Major issuers include Ondo Global Markets, xStocks and bStocks, and their tokens are circulating across multiple blockchains.

US regulators are also moving to bring tokenized stock trading into the formal financial system. The US Securities and Exchange Commission last month introduced an Innovation Exemption that allows trading platforms meeting certain requirements to trade tokenized products tied to US-listed stocks on public blockchains.

SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda said trading platforms operating under the exemption must disclose trading prices, volumes, execution times and daily turnover in US dollar terms. Liquidity pool addresses and balances must also be disclosed. Tokenized stock products from xStocks and Ondo Global Markets have generally been inaccessible to US investors, but under the new framework, platforms that meet shareholder-rights protections as well as trading and disclosure requirements will be able to offer tokenized stocks in the US.
