Soneium, Sony’s blockchain project, plans to issue a native ecosystem token. It also aims to expand its business of tokenizing entertainment intellectual property, including music and character IP.

On Oct. 26, Soneium said on its official website that it plans to issue its ecosystem token, SONEIUM. Details on the issuance schedule will be announced later.

Through the token issuance, Soneium aims to build an entertainment-focused on-chain economic ecosystem. The project currently operates more than 250 applications across music, games, animation and film.

Soneium is also moving to expand its IP tokenization business. Through its official platform, Soneium Portal, it plans to support IP investment and fan participation. Specifically, it aims to build a system that records IP ownership and usage terms on the blockchain and automatically handles license management and revenue distribution through smart contracts.

The company also plans to introduce new investment products such as IP Vault and IP Bond.

Its first IP tokenization project will feature Moriusa, a character from Japanese entertainment company Superstate Holdings. Soneium is also working with South Korean K-pop IP company DayOneDream on a plan to issue tokenized bonds tied to concert business revenue from artists including BTOB and Lee Chae-yeon.

Yuji Kumagai, head of the Soneium protocol, said the project will support creators in raising funds for new works, trying new forms of expression and communicating with fans. He added that he hopes this will help foster entertainment that can change people and society.
