A buy-side sidecar was triggered on South Korea’s main Kospi market after the index jumped more than 4% during intraday trading.

The Korea Exchange said on October 27 that the measure was activated early in the session as buying rapidly flowed into the Kospi market, temporarily suspending the validity of program buy orders.

As of 10:15 a.m., the Kospi was up 230.46 points, or 4.21%, from the previous trading day at 5,699.93.

The strength in domestic equities was attributed to growing investor expectations for semiconductor stocks after news that U.S. artificial intelligence company Anthropic is pursuing an initial public offering. The market is also focused on the possibility that the deal could become the largest IPO in U.S. stock market history.

The Kosdaq index also rose. As of the same time, it was up 30.31 points, or 4.17%, at 757.52.
