Grayscale Says Zcash’s 20% Block-Reward Allocation for Developers Drove 10 Years of Innovation

Grayscale, the global digital-asset manager, said Zcash’s block-reward structure, which allocates funding to developers, has helped sustain the cryptocurrency’s technological development.

Wu Blockchain reported on October 26 that Grayscale highlighted Zcash’s technical achievements over the past decade ahead of the privacy-focused token’s 10th anniversary on October 28. It said the model of directing 20% of block rewards to development funding contributed to long-term technological progress.

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency designed to protect users’ transaction data. Since its launch, it has undergone multiple upgrades aimed at improving privacy features and network security.

Among the most notable changes, Zcash introduced new shielded transaction pools starting with Sprout and later adding Sapling and Orchard. Grayscale said those upgrades advanced the network’s transaction-privacy technology in stages.

The Ironwood upgrade completed this year was also presented as a major achievement. It added address-recovery features to counter security threats related to quantum computing, along with formal verification technology that mathematically validates the safety of the system.

Grayscale said those technical improvements coincided with a structure that provides developers with ongoing funding. By reserving part of block rewards for development, the network was able to continue long-term improvement efforts.

As Zcash marks its 10th anniversary, it continues to advance privacy protection and security technology. Grayscale emphasized that the developer-support system has been one of the key factors underpinning Zcash’s technological innovation.
